VPS In India

If you want a VPS in India, you have a wide choice. Let’s look at the options.

VR.org offers VPS at the Netmagic datacenter in Chennai.

Let’s look at the performance of the VR.org Chennai VPS

CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz
Number of cores : 2
CPU frequency : 2000.000 MHz
Total amount of ram : 992 MB
Total amount of swap : 487 MB
Download speed from CacheFly: 8.28MB/s
I/O speed : 237MB/s

VR.org (hostvirtual) has very good support service. Queries are answered within minutes.

Leapswitch offers VPS at the Tata Communications Datacenter in Pune

Let’s look at the performance of Leapswitch’s Pune VPS

CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1230 v3 @ 3.30GHz
Number of cores : 1
CPU frequency : 1646.303 MHz
Total amount of ram : 512 MB
Total amount of swap : 512 MB
Download speed : (3.21MB/s)
I/O speed : 146MB/s

Leapswitch also offers KVM VPS at the Pune facility. Let’s take a look at the performace of that VPS.

Micronet also offers VPS in India. Though it advertised a VPS in Hyderabad at the Ctrls datacenter, it actually allotted a VPS in Go4Hosting’s Noida datacenter. The performance of the Noida VPS is as follows:

CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31220 @ 3.10GHz
Number of cores : 1
CPU frequency : 3092.926 MHz
Total amount of ram : 128 MB
Total amount of swap : 128 MB
System uptime : 15 days, 20:15,
Download speed : (961KB/s)
I/O speed : 37.4MB/s

Micronet’s support is slow and non-convincing.

The other contender is hostgator.in. However, their pricing is somewhat more expensive than the pricing of VR.org (hostvirtual), Leapswitch and Micronet. Hostagtor.in is co-located with the Ctrls Datacenters in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The biggest downside to using a VPS in India is that there are auto-throttles in place to curb your speed. VR.org makes it clear that the speed is limited here to 10Mbps for a 1 GB RAM plan. If you contrast it with the USA plan, you can see that the limit is 100Mbps. The others VPS providers are not as explicit. This becomes a big problem when you transfer files to and from the VPS. However, if you do not intend to transfer heavy files, you should be OK.

  • I recommend Leapswitch VPS if you're from India. I'm having VPS from them over 3months, and the network speed, uptime, support & PRICE just unbeatable 🙂

  • Well, I had a shared plan and then a Level 3 VPS with hostgator.in. They co-locate with Ctrls at the Mumbai and Hyderabad datacenters. The quality and speed of support is average/ good. However, the downside is that the prices are too high. For instance, the Level 3 plan offers a (weak) 1.13 GHz machine with 768 MB RAM for a fee of Rs. 2,250 per month. In contrast, VR.Org offers at a 1 GB RAM VPS with 2.5GHz CPU at the Netmagic Datacenter of Chennai for Rs. 1200 ($ 20). VR.org's support is better than that of hostgator.in. So, I don't see any point in going to hostgator.in (or even hostdime.in).

Leapswitch is a good contender at this point in time and can offer good deals.
